What is it?
  • Students can choose to take the Link Modules over the course of the two years in addition to their normal Leaving Certificate Examination. The LCVP may be counted as one of the six subjects when calculating points. 
  •  The two modules are:  
  • Preparation for the World of Work 
  • Enterprise Education 
  • It suits practical students and will particularly appeal to students of Business. 
  • It is a real preparation for the world of work and for self-employment. 
  • Students who would enjoy organising events or undertaking activities. 
  • Anyone who enjoys working on a continuous portfolio, which is done over the two years and is worth 60% of marks. 
  • LCVP promotes skills and qualities of self-reliance, innovation and enterprise. 
  • Skills learned through LCVP such as planning, researching, writing reports and making presentations are keys to your success at third level.   
  • You will learn how to find employment and how to work in a business environment. 
  • You will visit organisations and attend presentations. 
  • You will undertake work placements and you will plan and organise events. 
  • Students who take the LCVP link modules are considered to be more ready for the world of work.   
  • The practical nature of the programme is very beneficial to anyone interested in starting their own business or taking an active role in an established business. 
  • Employers familiar with the LCVP see its students as being generally more employable. 

Assessment 

Students work on a portfolio over the two years of the programme, which is worth 60% of their overall result. In May of the second year, the students sit an exam worth 40% of their overall mark.

Students undertake work placements and will be involved in fundraising activities. This programme promotes learning through visits in and out of the school.
