School Completion Programme
The School Completion Programme (SCP) works closely with the Home School Community Liaison
(HSCL) Teacher and the Education Welfare Officer (EWO) to promote improved attendance,
participation and retention in school. The team works with targeted students in a “young person
centered” approach as everyone’s needs are different. Working closely with school staff and other
statutory and voluntary agencies, they identify the needs of these students and put a plan in place so
that they can fully engage in all aspects of school life. SCP liaises with the Care Team and School
Management on a regular basis and offers support to families in times of crisis. Working in
partnership with the school to provide the best outcomes for students at risk of early school leaving
is the overall aim.
These supports include one-to-one work, small group work, personal development, lunchtime clubs
and summer holiday activity provision.
Home School Liaison Officer:
The Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) teacher is the link between home and school, with the
aim of supporting parents and sharing information between home and school. The HSCL encourages
parents to be part of the school community and play an active part in their child’s education.
Working closely with form tutors, year heads and the School Completion Programme to monitor
attendance the HSCL visits homes for various reasons. All contact is positive and supportive. Parents
can contact the HSCL if they, or their child, are experiencing any difficulty that is affecting their child’s
ability to do well in school. Students can also meet with the HSCL in school if they are experiencing
difficulties and require further support.
Parents Association:
The Parent’s Association plays a very active part in the promotion and development of the school. All
parents of children attending the school are automatically members of the Association. It provides
for the formal involvement of parents in the affairs of the school. It is through the Association that
the parents’ nominees of the Board of Management are elected and can consult with parents and
bring forward their views at Board level.
SEN – Learning Support
Ó Fiaich College has a well-resourced and experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Department.
While our mainstream teachers hold responsibility for the learning and teaching within the
classroom, the SEN Coordinator and the SEN team have additional resources available to offer more
specialised support where needed. This support can be offered on an individual, small group or
whole-class basis. This comprehensive support provided by teachers and SNAs, is offered to pupils
who have identified learning needs. Parents/guardians receive reports on their child’s progress and
participation in this support as well as being offered parent’s classes to help best support their
students at home
Art at O Fiaich College
The Art Department at O Fiaich College aims to help and encourage each pupil to develop as an individual with the skills and confidence to explore their own unique imagination and creativity. Both at Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate Art we aim to foster a lifelong appreciation of art and visual culture through practical art making and creativity and through the study of Art History from the past and todays world.
Overall we have a very practical approach to our subject, building strong personal connections and subject knowledge with a variety of media. With fantastic facilities this allows our students to have access to a wide range of Art, Craft and Design, allowing creativity in a friendly safe environment with a wide range of opportunities for students to discover their full potential in this subject.
